In 1993, Kathryn joined the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) College of Nursing, bringing with her a wealth of knowledge and experience. Within two years, she ascended to the role of program director, where she played a pivotal role in shaping the curriculum and mentoring future nurse practitioners. Her leadership was characterized by a collaborative approach, fostering an environment where students felt valued and empowered to excel.


Establishing Nurse-led Practices
Dr. Fiandt’s commitment to serving underserved populations is evident in her founding of the SHARING Clinic and RESPECT Clinic. These nurse-led primary care practices not only provided essential healthcare services but also served as training grounds for nursing students. Under her guidance, these clinics became models of community health, emphasizing holistic care and the importance of addressing social determinants of health.
Funding and Advocacy
Throughout her career, Kathryn has been a tireless advocate for nursing education and healthcare access. She successfully secured over $9.7 million in grants, which funded innovative programs and services for communities in need. This aspect of her career underscores her belief in the power of advocacy and resource mobilization, principles she instills in her coaching program to empower nurse practitioners to advocate for themselves and their communities.
